A Life of Lights, Labor, and Legacy: The Story of Lin Honeycutt

Lin Honeycutt is a man who prefers action over attention. He spent over 30 years building a career and a life centered around hard work, faith, and service.

Based in Raleigh, North Carolina, Lin has worn many hats—business owner, farm operator, disaster relief leader, church cook, and Christmas light designer.

“I’ve always believed in doing what needs to be done,” Lin says. “You don’t wait around for someone else to step up. You go.”

He started his first major business, Honeycutt Transmission, not long after college. It became a well-known name in Raleigh for quality auto repair. Lin worked hard to build trust with his customers. “I ran that shop for decades,” he says. “And I gave it everything I had.”

In 2019, Lin sold the business. He knew it was time to focus on other parts of his life.

Faith in Action

For Lin, business was never just about money. It was about helping people. That same mindset guided his service through the North Carolina Baptist Men (NCBM) and the Raleigh Baptist Association (RBA).

He spent 19 years as a Regional Coordinator with NCBM. He also served 17 years as the Brotherhood Director for RBA. Lin has traveled to more than 20 states and multiple countries doing mission work. He’s helped rebuild homes and churches after disasters like Hurricane Katrina and the Wake County tornadoes in 2011.

“When people lose everything, they need more than just tools and lumber,” Lin says. “They need to know someone cares.”

He retired from formal mission work in 2021 due to health issues. But he still gives back. These days, you’ll find him cooking for his church family. “I can’t go as far anymore, but I can still feed people. And I love that.”

Fieldstream Farm: More Than Just a Light Show

One of Lin’s most unique projects is Fieldstream Farm. Located near Raleigh, this farm has become a hub for both farming and events. It hosts more than 50 events each year—from weddings to baby showers to memorials.

But what really sets it apart is the Christmas light show. What began as a small family display has grown into a mile-long drive-through experience with over 2 million lights.

“It’s not free,” Lin says honestly. “It’s $20 per car, up to 8 people. But for what you get, it’s worth it.”

People from across the state—and even beyond—visit Fieldstream Farm during the holidays. Lin runs the show with precision and passion. “There are tons of YouTube videos out there now,” he laughs. “I never expected it to get this big.”

Farming Roots Run Deep

Even though the light show brings a lot of attention, Fieldstream Farm is still very much a working farm. Lin and his team grow hay and 8 acres of tobacco each year. The tobacco is grown at the Angier location, which also surrounds The Holiday Light Store.

“We also raise chickens,” he adds. “We’ve got more than 50, and we sell eggs too. It’s a simple life, but a good one.”

The Holiday Light Store, another one of Lin’s ventures, has been in business for 21 years. It offers holiday décor and supplies to people who want to bring light into their own homes and communities.

Community Above All

Lin’s work has always centered around community. Whether running a repair shop, organizing church events, or stringing up lights, he has focused on helping others.

“I’ve always said, whatever you’re doing—do it with purpose,” Lin says. “You don’t have to be the best. Just show up, care, and follow through.”

Even though he no longer travels for mission work, Lin’s faith is still central to everything he does. He’s served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, soloist, chair of deacons, and on multiple committees at his church. He is also a proud and long-time supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Final Thoughts

Lin Honeycutt’s story is not about fame or fortune. It’s about work done quietly but with great care. Whether rebuilding storm-damaged homes or designing a holiday experience seen by thousands, Lin’s focus has never changed: serve with heart, lead by example, and never forget the power of showing up.

“I don’t do what I do to be noticed,” he says. “I do it because it’s right. That’s enough for me.”
